RIP: ‘Cha Cha Slide’ hitmaker DJ Casper dies aged 58

DJ Casper, famous for the 2004 hit song ‘Cha Cha Slide’, has passed away after a long battle with liver and kidney cancer.

DJ Casper, popularly known for the party dance classic, Cha Cha Slide, has died at the age of 58 after a long battle with liver and kidney cancer.

FAMILY CONFIRMS DJ CASPER’S DEATH

The US musician’s death was confirmed to Chicago TV station ABC7 on Tuesday, 8 August, by his wife Kim.

“Casper was a fun-loving, giving person,” she said in a statement.

“He was a genuine, family oriented man. He loved Chicago with all his heart. He will be greatly missed,” his wife told the TV channel, adding that he lost his battle with cancer on Monday.

CANCER DIAGNOSIS

Speaking about his health challenges with ABC7 in May last year, Casper said he was having challenges with his health

“They diagnosed me in 2016 with two kinds of cancer, which is renal and Neuroendocrine, which is kidney and liver,” DJ Casper said.

“They went in to try to do surgery, and they found out the kidney was connected to the main artery, so they decided not to do it and just treat it.”

He further said that he would do all he can to fight cancer.

“Anybody that’s going through cancer, know that you have cancer and cancer does not have you. So, keep on doing the Cha Cha Slide.”

‘CHA CHA SLIDE’ PHENOMENON

Real name real name Willie Perry Jr, DJ Casper’s Cha Cha Slide hit l, which was accompanied by a its variation of the line dance, topped the UK charts in 2004. The first version of the song, however, was released in 2000.

“I have one of the biggest songs that played at all stadiums: hockey, basketball, football, baseball; they played it at the Olympics,” DJ Casper said in his ABC7 interview.
