Police commissioner to brief SA on Thabo Bester, Dr Nandi arrests

National police commissioner Lt-Gen Fannie Masemola is set to “brief the nation” after Thabo Bester and Dr Nandi Magudumana’s arrests .

Sowetan reveals that National Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Fannie Masemola will brief South Africans following reports that Thabo Bester and Dr Nandi Magudumana were arrested in Tanzania on Friday, 7 April.

POLICE COMMISSIONER TO BRIEF ON THABO BESTER

The National Police Commissione Lt-Gen Fannie Masemola will brief the nation at 2pm on Saturday, 8 April on Newzroom (DSTV, channel 405) regarding Thabo Bester and Dr Nandi Magudumana’s arrests in Tanzania.

A joint statement to Sowetan reads: “Minister of police, Gen Bheki Cele and justice minister, Ronald Lamola will at 2pm be updating the nation on the progress of the manhunt of convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester, who escaped from custody at the Mangaung Correctional Facility.”

National police spokesperson Col Athlenda Mathe told TshisaLIVE: “The national commissioner will brief the nation on any progress relating to this. I am not confirming or denying anything.”

Bester, who is dubbed the “Facebook rapist” for his crimes, has been on the run since he escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein in May 2022.
