GUILTY VERDICT

In June 2020, acting Judge J Du Plessis sentenced the rapper to 10 years in jail, stating that he would serve an effective five years. According to Sunday World at the time, he had already spent one year and five months in custody while awaiting trial.

At first, the Never Let You Go hitmaker was charged with murder, which was later changed to culpable homicide in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

Modisane died of blunt force trauma to the head. Her lifeless body was found on 31 December 2018 at a bed and breakfast in Johannesburg.

Delivering his judgement, Du Plessis said the musician was not remorseful for his negligence even though he had not intentionally killed his fiancée.

“Although he apologised to the family, but he still denies that he knows what happened on the day. It didn’t assist the accused to speak for himself, because I still don’t see remorse on his side. It doesn’t help him,” said the judge.
