South African former professional sprinter Oscar Pistorius has allegedly been eligible for parole for the past six since (since 21 March), the Constitutional Court allegedly confirmed – this comes after the convicted murderer served some time behind bars for fatally shooting his late girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013, the Citizen reported.
OSCAR PISTORIUS IS ALLEGEDLY ELIGIBLE FOR PAROLE
Oscar Pistorius killed his then-girlfriend, 29-year-old model and law graduate, Reeva Steenkamp by firing four shots through the bathroom door of his mansion, claiming that he mistakenly thought she was an intruder. The 36-year-old former Olympic and Paralympic athlete also known as the Blade Runner was sentenced to 13 years and five months behind bars in 2017.
According to the publication, on Monday, 9 October, the Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo is said to have revealed that they had received an order from the apex court regarding the proper interpretation of the Supreme Court of Appeal’s (SCA) judgment delivered on 24 November 2017 regarding Pistorius’ parole.

“The matter relates to the sentence given to inmate Oscar Leonard Pistorius, its effective date, and the impact on the calculation of the minimum detention period. The Department of Correctional Services is studying the order and shall in due course pronounce itself on the way forward. This shall ensure the order of court is correctly executed,” Khumalo was quoted as saying.

Oscar Pistorius had allegedly applied for parole on the grounds he had served half of his prison term, however, the Department of Correctional Services is reported to have said that the parole board found that the disgraced athlete had not completed the minimum detention period required to be released on parole, CNN reported. Instead, Pistorius’ next parole hearing was set for August 2024.
Last month, a still heartbroken man, Reeva Steenkamp’s father Barry,80, died in his sleep on Thursday, 14 September. He had suffered from a stroke shortly after Reeva was killed and his health had been in poor condition since then, Daily Mail reported.
