On Saturday, 7 October, the Buccaneers beat Sundowns at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Pirates retained their MTN8 title following the clash.

Mark Fish – who played 110 games for the boys in black and white between 1993 and 1996 – celebrated their victory on his Twitter account.

Tweeting a pic of himself at the match, he posted: “Once and always…Well done Orlando Pirates”.

He added: “Up the Bucs.”

Meanwhile, Mark Fish revealed that he was once close to signing with Orlando Pirates’s arch-rivals, Kaizer Chiefs.

Speaking on Podcast and Chill last year, Fish revealed that Jono Sono ultimately blocked the move.

He said: “When we got relegated [1993], in the following season, we found ourselves [with other teammates from Cosmos] at Pirates.

“When I was on my way to see Jomo Sono, the old PRO from Kaizer Chiefs saw me, and we started chatting.

“He said the Chiefs fans had been writing him messages saying they would like to see me and Lucas [Radebe] playing together before Lucas went to Leeds [United].

“When I told Jomo, he said, ‘If you sign for Kaizer Chiefs, I’ll make sure you never play football again in this country. Anyway, I found myself at Orlando Pirates.”
