The Miss Universe organisation revealed how Harnaaz Sandhu will use her reign as Miss Universe via a press statement on Monday 13 December.


Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu was crowned Miss Universe at the Universe Dome, Port of Eilat in Israel on Sunday 12 December. This was a historic win for India as Harnaaz took home the title after 21 years. India has only won Miss Universe twice before – Lara Dutta (2000) and Sushmita Sen (1994).

There were a total of 80 countries competing in the Miss Universe pageant. Andrea Meza (Miss Universe 2020) from Mexico presented Harnaaz with the prestigious crown before she took her first walk as Miss Universe 2021. Take a look…


Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane was crowned second runner-up at the pageant and Miss Paraguay Nadia Ferriera, first runner-up.

The beauty queen said she hopes to serve the global community in the year to come. 

“This has been an experience of a lifetime! he past three weeks have been a dream getting to know these exceptional women, and I’m honoured to be chosen among them to represent this inspiring organisation. I hope to serve the global community to the best of my ability in the year to come,” said Harnaaz according to a press release by the Miss Universe organisation. 

Harnaaz will use her reign to advocate for menstrual equity.

The beauty queen will “use her time as Miss Universe to advocate for menstrual equity through public administration,” the statement continued.

After her big win, the 21-year-old took to Instagram to acknowledge everyone that believed in her. 

“We did it. ???? I said in my final answer, that I believed in myself and that’s why I was on that stage. I also want to mention a few people who believed in me too. Firstly I would like to thank my family and friends who have been there with me no matter what.They have seen me fall and get up and they have been there supporting me throughout,” she wrote.
