Gauteng earthquake: Gospel icon Kholeka’s house damaged [video]

Well-known gospel musician, Kholeka Dubula Sosibo, was one of the Gauteng residents left shaken by the earthquake on Sunday morning.

Gospel star Kholeka Dubula Sosibo is one of the many South Africans who were left shaken following an earthquake in Gauteng at around 02:38 on Sunday, 11 June.

EARTHQUAKE HITS GAUTENG

The Council for Geoscience indicated a 4.7 magnitude earthquake on Gauteng’s East Rand. While the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said the earthquake measured around 5.0 on the Richter scale.

It was also reported that the quake hit at around 10km below the surface and 16km south east of Johannesburg.

“The epicenter was located in the Boksburg area a few kilometers outside East Rand Proprietarty Mine, in the East Rand of Johannesburg”.

SINGER KHOLEKA SHARES STRUCTURAL DAMAGE

Gauteng residents flooded social media in reaction to the phenomenon, with others reporting structural damage.

One of the residents affected is gospel singer Kholeka who took to Twitter to share a video of the damage the earthquake caused in her house in Boksburg.

“I’m in Boksburg, this is what has happened to my house. Matthew 24 told us of what is to come,” she wrote.

Responding to one fan in the comments section, the Alibuyi Lilambatha hitmaker said: “Everything was just shaking.”

Sge aalso told another Twitter user that she’s yet to check if her building insurance covers such incidents.

MORE REACTIONS

Another Boksburg resident shared a clip of the damage on the wall of her home, as well as the debris on the floor.

“Living in Boksburg is such a nightmare. I still can’t believe this. I was shaken and woken up to dust,” she wrote.

Journalist and anti-crime activist, Yusuf Abramjee, posted a video of the moment the earthquake took place. The video was recorded by CCTV cameras in Benoni.
