The first woman of colour to win the Miss SA pageant back in 1992 was Real Housewives van die Wynlande (RHOWL) star Amy Kleinhans-Curd — she was crowned Miss SA while South Africa was still under the apartheid state and the beauty queen had quite the interest in politics.

Amy Kleinhans-Curd is now one of the housewives on the Real Housewives van die Wynlande (RHOWL) based in the Winelands of the Western Cape. She has lived in Franschhoek for the last 10 years with her husband — New Zealand businessman Leighton Curd.
Amy has quite the academic background. She studied at the University of Cape Town (UCT), where she obtained her Bachelor of Social Science degree and majored in African Political History.
She then went on to do a Higher Diploma in Education (HDE).
“I majored in African political history and I then finished off my BScoc degree. And then I didn’t know what I wanted to do and I, I lectured at Tuks and stuff like that. My parents are all teachers and the family is all teachers,” she said exclusively to The South African.
“And then my dad said to me, why don’t you just do an HDE? You love Children, you love teaching and education anyway. And it’s really so high on your priority list. And then let’s see how it goes and that’s what I did. I did a post graduate in education,” she continued.
Now, she is also a director of several companies, including the homework helpline for teachers, Dial-A-Teacher.
