Anaesthesiologist Dr Mmereka Patience Martha Ntshani, affectionately known as Dr Pashy, has set tongues wagging on social media. Many are starting to believe she has more connections with Dr Nandipha Magudumana than she is willing to admit.

Dr Pashy’s name came to light after it emerged that the arrested celebrity doctor “stole” her identity and used it when she skipped the country.

Dr Nandipha was arrested with her boyfriend and “Facebook rapist” Thabo Bester in Tanzania on Friday, 7 April. She had assumed the identity of Martha Patience Mmerika Ntshini when they were apprehended 10km away from the Kenyan border.

The two doctors worked together in 2020 when The Pashy Foundation hosted a women’s seminar with Dr Nandipha as one of the guest speakers.

“Dr Pashy Foundation said it further entered into a PR Management Agreement with Vibes Africa Incorporation International, a company that is wholly owned by Dr Nandipha Magudumana,” read the statement in part.

Other speakers at Dr Pashy’s event included renowned actress Terry Pheto, Blood and Water star Natasha Thahane and Malaika band member Tshedi Mholo.

Out of all four of Dr Pashy’s guests at the women’s event in 2020, Mholo is the only one who has not hogged the headlines for a corruption scandal. This was highlighted by a number of social media users on Twitter, who are not buying Dr Pashy’s media statement.

The Tsotsi actress is embroiled in a multi-million Rand corruption scandal involving the National Lotteries Commission (NLC). Last November, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) obtained a preservation order from the North Gauteng High Court to seize assets worth over R50 million which included Pheto’s house in Bryanston that was built using R3 million of the lottery grant money meant for an “initiation programme”. Although the former Bold and The Beautiful actress denied any involvement in the property fraud, her home was auctioned by the SIU for R3.9 million on 27 March.

The celebrity doctor had been on the run with her partner in crime, Thabo Bester, after GroundUp revealed that he had not burnt beyond recognition in a fire that broke out at the Mangaung Correctional Centre on 3 May 2022. Bester and Dr Nandipha were spotted shopping in June last year at Woolworths as it later emerged and was confirmed that he escaped from prison in May. The couple, which is linked to a string of crimes including fraud, corruption and the disappearance of two of their domestic employees, were arrested in Tanzania.

After their arrest on Friday, Sunday Times reported that Dr Nandipha allegedly stole three unidentified bodies from Free State mortuaries. One of the bodies, which has not yet been identified, is believed to have been charred during the prison fire the night Bester escaped. Another one of the bodies was dumped in a river a week after she took possession of it. The doctor claimed, to her insurance company, that her father had died, thus receiving a payout of R1.5 million. However, her father is alive and has also been arrested in connection with Bester’s escape.
