Boss mama: DJ Zinhle’s operational and defunct businesses

Although she recently had to shut down one of her businesses, DJ Zinhle has many streams of income. Here are all her business ventures.

Mzansi was introduced to media personality DJ Zinhle – Nombizinhle Jiyane – through her music career. But, over the years, the mom-of-two – who proudly calls former Black Motion DJ, Morda (formerly Murdah Bongz) her husband – is also a serial businesswoman.

Last week, Sunday World reported that the Umlilo hitmaker has shut down her luxury furniture store, Jiyane Atelier.

The company has been in the process of liquidation since November last year and is facing deregistration due to annual return non-compliance. In addition, the website for the online store is no longer operational.

DJ Zinhle’s furniture store, which officially launched in October 2019, sold leather and velvet sofas, ottamans, headboards and more. In 2021, the company provided studio furniture for television shows including Anele Mdoda’s Buzz on Honey TV (DStv channel 173).

Despite Jiyane Atelier closing its doors, the Indlovu DJ still has many streams of income.

1. Era by DJ Zinhle – Launched in 2012, this is the musician’s oldest and most popular business venture. The company is a timeless fashion-accessory brand which sells watches, bags, glasses, jewellery and other accessories. Zinhle has even collaborated with her first daughter Kairo Forbes to create little girls’ watches. Zinhle shares the little girl with slain rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes. The company has stores at some of the major malls in Limpopo, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

2. Her Majesty – another beauty or accessories company is Zinhle’s wigs business called Hair Majesty which was established in 2021. Zinhle’s Peruvian, Brazilian & Vietnamese wigs are purchased online or at her store at the Mall of Africa in Johannesburg.

3. Boulevard Nectar Rosè – In 2020, Zinhle announced that she is the CEO of the alcohol brand Boulevard Nectar Rosè, revealing that she was able to get equity in the International wine brand.

4. Book – In 2018, Zinhle and Nokubonga Mbanga released a motivational book titled Meeting Your Power.

5. Air BnB – In 2020, the DJ announced that she had put up one of her luxury properties on Air BnB. The flat is situated in Bryanston, Johannesburg.
