Ntsiki Mazwai has called out DJ Zinhle for allowing her daughter Kairo Forbes to take to the stage in a music concert celebrating her late father, AKA.

The outspoken media personality – who was no fan of the later rapper, real name Kiernan Forbes – shared her opinion with her Twitter or X.com followers.

Over the weekend, Kairo made headlines after she performed a tearful rendition of one of her dad’s songs at the 947 Joburg Day. The eight-year-old appeared alongside her mother, her father’s girlfriend, Nadia Nakai, and Kiernan’s mother, Lynn Forbes.

AKA was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in Durban in February.

In a series of tweets, Ntsiki Mazwai called out DJ Zinhle for what she believes was a poor parent move.

The former Moja Love presenter even accused the hitmaker of exploiting her daughter for “PR.”

She tweeted in a since-deleted post: “I don’t mean to be harsh, but Kairo is not the first or last child to lose an artist parent.”

She added: “But she is the first to be used for PR to capitalise. It’s so sad”.

She added in more tweets:

“A lot of artists have children….their children don’t belong on stage.

“Imagine mourning on a stage …It’s deep. Such a private time.”

“She [Zinhle] must hold herself accountable…..Most parents protect their children from the spotlight ….they don’t thrust them into it.”

Ntsiki Mazwai wasn’t the only X user to share a similar opinion on DJ Zinhle and Kairo.

Gender-based violence NGO Women For Change claimed that the DJ was using her daughter for “content.”

Here’s what others had to say:

@officialshlelo: “They are making Kairo  do a PR run instead of letting her mourn in peace.”

@_french_fry: “Baby Kaely is going through hectic emotions. Cameras, grand stages while mourning.”

@mrridgard53: “Mama is using her to get more traction.”

It’s no secret that Kairo is one of the biggest celebrity child brands in South Africa right now.

The only child of Zinhle and AKA has over 1 million Instagram followers and has reportedly generated millions in revenue through paid partnerships and endorsement deals.

But that wasn’t always the case. In 2017, Zinhle revealed that she would no longer post pics of Kairo on social media. She told Z’khiphani of her decision: “I felt like my child was overexposed, so the reason I wanted to take her off social media is because she is a baby, and I thought she just needed time out.”

She also claimed that strangers often pestered Kairo and her nanny in the street, which was a significant safety concern for her.

A few years later, Zinhle claimed an “older” Kairo consented to having her pics on social media and having her own Instagram account. But her “fame” came at a cost. In 2017, Zinhle told Sowetan that fans had accosted Kairo in a local mall.

Sharing her concerns, she said: “Sometimes I panic. We do what we can to protect her, but sometimes I get scared. I think should I post this? We try to give people a glimpse of Kairo’s life and let her be as free as possible, but we also monitor what we put out there”.
