A week after being in a coma in the ICU over a nasty bout of respiratory pneumonia, Derick Hougaard’s girlfriend Nadine is sharing an update with his fans.
The former Springboks player was rushed to a Pretoria hospital last week after he failed to wake up.
Derick began dating the Afrikaans singer in 2018, three years after his divorce from ex-wife Karlien van Jaarsveld, who is also an entertainer.

DERICK HOUGAARD UPDATE
In a Facebook post, Derick Hougaard’s girlfriend of five years shared reflected on her difficult week,
She shared: “Derick’s condition is unchanged, and he is still terribly sick. I rather share it with you myself. This is how he would have wanted it.
She added: “I pray for him every hour. And I tell him about the positive messages and prayers from each of you and his family and friends. I know he hears me.
“Let’s keep our eyes upward directed to the only father who does know everything, knows and is.”

In a previous post, Nadine shared of Derick’s health woe: “This is very heavy. However, the doctors and nurses are wonderful, and the Father is working through their hands
“I pray that his lungs will fulfill their purpose in creation again – just to breathe.”
WHAT IS RESPIRATORY PNEUMONIA?
According to Netwerk24, Derick had “went to sleep” and “hadn’t woken up.”
His girlfriend Nadine called an ambulance to his Pretoria East home on Friday, 9 June.

Lung.org states that respiratory pneumonia is an infection that inflames your lungs, resulting in them filling up with liquid or pus.
Symptoms include
- A nasty cough, often with mucus
- Fever, sweating, and shaking chills
- Shortness of breath and shallow breathing
- Chest pains during coughing and heavy breathing
- Loss of appetite, low energy, and fatigue
- Nausea and vomiting
Various tests like a chest x-ray or blood and sputum tests will determine the treatment level.
