‘Small progress’: Glimmer of hope for Derick Hougaard?

Former Springboks player Derick Hougaard is fighting for his life at a Pretoria hospital, where he is in a coma. But according to his girlfriend Nadine, there is a small glimmer of hope.

The Afrikaans singer has claimed that the retired rugby star is making “small progress,” which she believes is thanks to their shared Christian faith.

Derick was rushed to hospital on Saturday, 10 June, after he was found unresponsive at his Pretoria home. According to doctors, the 40-year-old has contracted respiratory pneumonia and is on a ventilator.

NADINE SHARES HEALTH UPDATE ON DERICK HOUGAARD

In a Facebook post on Tuesday morning, Nadine shared another health update on Derick Hougaard.

She began by joking about the star, whom she claimed loved to raid her wardrobe. She then hinted at an altercation that took place at the hospital between her and two “friends” of the star sportsman.

She shared: “I’m staying away from general social media and focusing all my energy on faith, prayer, and healing for Derick.

“THANK YOU for every prayer, your support and love!”.

Nadine gave a positive health update about Derick.

She continued: “This is day 9. He is not awake yet. Doctors are monitoring him 24 hours a day. His mother and sister are also here.

“In spite of an extremely ill Derick, there was a very, very small progress today! But we are so grateful. We PRAY, we SPEAK LIFE, we keep BELIEVING.”

CLASH WITH ‘FRIENDS’ WHO SUSPECT FOUL PLAY

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Nadine called out two hospital visitors who gained entry into Derick’s room without authorisation. According to the singer, Louis Liebeng and Helena Niedinger caused a scene in the hospital where they also took pictures of the athlete lying in the ICU.

She shared: “I am pleading with Louis Liebenberg, Helena Niedinger, and people with cameras to PLEASE stop screaming, taking pictures of Derick on a ventilator, monitors, and drips, and upset staff who are physically fighting for Derick and others’ lives! Please do not make me wait any longer at hospital doors and take photos! And I have no idea what these people are capable of”.

In Facebook posts and videos, Louis called out what he claims were “strange” circumstances surrounding Derick’s health condition.

This included allegations

• Derick and Nadine argued on Friday and that Derick likely overdosed or was poisoned.
• Questioned the timeline of events when Nadine discovered him the following day (Saturday)
• Questioned why Derick was in a state hospital and offered to pay for private hospitalisation
• Demanded that results of toxicology testing – to decipher what drugs were in Derick’s system – be made public.
• Nadine had “no right” to decide on his behalf or deny access to any hospital visitors.
• Claimed that Derick was “no longer on the earth,” hinting that machines were keeping him alive
