The late Derek Watts will be remembered for being a top-notch investigative journalist on M-Net’s Carte Blanche…and for his memorable dad dance moves!

The veteran TV personality sadly passed after a year’s battle with cancer. While we remember him for breaking some of the biggest stories in South Africa, we also fondly recall those cringe dance moves that had us howling with laughter!

On Tuesday, 22 August, friends and family announced the death of the veteran investigative journalist. He was 74 years old.

DEREK WATTS: DANCE MOVES THAT HAD US IN STITCHES

cker/*With news of Derek Watt’s passing, many have recalled some of his biggest TV moments. That includes a cameo appearance in Castle Lite’s beer advertisement back in September 2022. Another included a stint for Checker’s Sixty60 app.

In the Castle Lite sketch, the well-known face is seen visiting a bar after having a rough day. He said in it: “I’ve been on TV for 38 years and people think I’m this really serious guy. Maybe I am serious, but the world is a serious place”.

In a typical barman vs patron scene, Derek is then handed a beer – a Castle Lite – to “drown his sorrows”.

After one sip, his mood is instantly uplifted and the presenter then hits the dance floor to let loose. But despite being mocked for his moves on social media, Derek Watts was keen to accept the offer from Castle Lite.

FROM NANDO’S, WITH LOVE

Nando’s posted a tweet dedicated to the investigative journalist.

In it, the popular restaurant – known for its spicy commentary – alluded to what they shared in common with Watts.

The tweet read: “The only other person who grilled better than us.
