Deadbeat father? Mihlali’s boyfriend Leeroy Sidambe ‘facing arrest’

Zimbabwean-born businessman Leeroy Sidambe – who is also socialite Mihlali Ndamase’s partner – has reportedly been issued with a warrant of arrest.

This comes after his ex-girlfriend took him to court for reportedly failing to pay maintenance for their child – Sunday World reports.

LEEROY SIDAMBE ALLEGEDLY A DEADBEAT

Sidambe’s child with his ex is said to have been born a month before his estranged wife, Mary-Jane Sidambe, gave birth to their first child in 2007. At the time, Mary-Jane was still his girlfriend. The ex-couple got married in 2016.

As per the warrant which was issued by the Booysens Magistrate’s Court in Joburg on March 3, police were given three months to execute it or return it with a report should they to fail to execute it.

According to a source, Sidambe’s baby mama only started asking for child maintenance after her mother, who was supporting her son, passed away in 2012. She went to court to force Sidambe to pay R4 000 per month, however, he has reportedly been paying the same amount since despite repeated requests to do so.

“The baby doesn’t exist in his life. All he does or says are empty promises. He can do everything for his friends but not his child,” said the offi- cial.

When she and a police officer went to Sidambe’s office to deliver the subpoena, he was reportedly not there.

“When I arrived at the address, he was not there. Captain Shilubane, who accompanied me to the address, called Leeroy Sidambe on his cellphone and he said he was not on duty, he would only be available on Monday. He was made aware that day will be the date he has to be in court,” read the affidavit.

When asked, Sidambe denied knowing about the warrant of arrest.

UNPAID EMPLOYEES?

Earlier this month, City Press reported that Mihlali’s boyfriend had failed to pay the SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) guards employed by his company, the Sakhile Ezweni Group.

“This has been going on for a long time. Sidambe used to pay them on the 7th or 8th of the month, but now he’s [making irregular payments] again. Some of the guys don’t even have money for transport. This man needs to be put in his place or government should give someone else the tender, because he’s failing [to uphold his commitments],” said the source.

The source said Sidambe promised to pay workers on 29 May because he had only paid them R2 000 for April. He eventually reportedly paid them on 31 May, but still allegedly owed salaries for April.
