‘Daddy’s going to miss you’: Lynn reveals AKA’s last words to Kairo

Lynn Forbes revealed what AKA said to his daughter Kairo Forbes the last time he saw her — on an episode of The Carol Ofori Podcast on Thursday 11 May.

Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, popularly known as AKA, was shot dead outside of Wish restaurant on Florida Road, Durban on 10 February, along with his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

AKA’s mom Lynn Forbes sat down with East Coast Radio’s Carol Ofori to chat about how she’s dealing with the death of her son, just days before she has to endure her first Mother’s Day without him. Lynn described what the morning of AKA’s death looked like, before he headed for Durban for the gig he unfortunately never made it to.

The mom of two explained that Kairo has been staying with AKA for the week and the rapper asked her to wake him up before she takes the seven-year-old to school in the morning. So, she did and he told his only child that he loved her and he will miss her — as she was going to go back to her mom’s home.

AKA shares Kairo with South African DJ Ntombezinhle Jiyane, popularly known as DJ Zinhle.

“He told her, ‘Daddy’s gonna miss you. I can’t wait for you to be back and always remember that daddy loves you,” she said.

Lynn also recalled that AKA told her he won’t see her again on the morning off her death. However, he meant that he won’t see his mom because she was taking a road trip and he was headed to Durban. So, he hugged her and blew kisses as she headed out of the driveway.

The mom of two also revealed that her brother-in-law Trevor was the one to break the news of AKA’s death to her. Her youngest son Steffan had call Trevor and told him what had happened. Trevor then held and comforted Lynn as he broke the devastating news to her.

At the time, she thought something had happened to her mom, but her brother-in-law had to tell her it was actually her son. She revealed that she was inconsolable until Steffan has come to fetch her.

“I just know that I have never felt pain like that ever in my life before. I still feel that pain. I wake up every morning and it is just a confirmation that I will never hear his voice again… The most painful thing is that Kiernan would phone me almost every day, check on me and send me messages, but I will never have that again. The phone has just gone quiet. He just doesn’t call anymore,” she continued.
