Funny-man and TV presenter Stopnonsons – real name Tumi Matilda – was granted R2000 bail for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Thando Ngemane, and pointing a firearm at her and her friend Tsholofelo Kgosimotho.

According to Sunday World, the comedian appeared at the Randburg magistrate’s court on Thursday and Friday, 10 and 11 August.

The publication reports that Stopnonsons – also know by his alter ego Jumiama – spent a few nights in police custody after he was detained at the Honeydew police station on Tuesday morning.

“Police can confirm that a 31-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with assault and pointing of firearm,” said police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo at the time.

The SABC1 presenter made his first court appearance on Thursday, where Kgosimotho opposed that he be granted bail while Ngemane did not. He made a second appearance on Friday, but both complainants were absent from court. The court also announced that Kgosimotho was no longer opposing the bail. He was, however, slapped with two protection orders from both Ngemane and Kgosimotho.

Stopnonsons’ manager, Itumeleng Matolo, said that the comedian will be back on stage and working soon.

“He will be attending his shows today. It is just that we have not had time to sit down with him as yet to explain to us what happened. Last time I saw him was on Sunday when he was with her,” he said.
