After much social media speculation this week, England Rugby has confirmed that player Tom Curry was allegedly racially abused by Springbok Bongi Mbonambi last year.

This reportedly occurred during the rugby rivals playoff in the Autumn Series in November 2022.

Now, social media users are sharing a clip of an altercation between the players during the time the alleged incident took place.

ENGLAND RUGBY MAKE NEW ACCUSATION AGAINST BONGI MBONAMBI

In a statement released on Thursday, 26 October, England Rugby (Rugby Feeration Union) responded to World Rugby’s stance that they would not be taking action against Springbok Bongi Mbonambi.

This, after he was accused of calling England’s Tom Curry a “white c**t” during SA and England’s Rugby World Cup semi-final clash last weekend.

The alleged racial slur has been put down as Curry misinterpreting the Afrikaans words “wit kant,” meaning “white side,” referring to England.

But the governing body claims it’s not the first time Tom Curry has been verbally attacked by Mbonambi.

It said in a statement: “During the match between England and South Africa on Saturday, 21st October 2023, Tom Curry reported to the referee that he had been racially abused by Mbongeni Mbonambi.

“The subsequent World Rugby investigation were informed by Tom Curry that he had also been the victim of the same abuse from the same player in the Autumn Test 2022. 

RFU then went on to criticise World Rugby for not investigating further. It also condemned the social media attacks on Tom Curry.

It continued: “In their continued full support of Tom, the RFU, together with the England Squad, condemn the disgusting abuse he and his family has received on social media as a result of his having had the courage to put unacceptable behaviour that has no place in society or on the rugby field, in the public eye.

“Abuse of any kind is not acceptable and goes against the core values of rugby. It is important that it is safe and acceptable for everyone involved in rugby union to raise concerns. The RFU continues to encourage everyone to report any unacceptable behaviour in the game.”

Meanwhile, rugby fans have been sharing a clip of a heated altercation between Tom Curry and Bongi Mbonambi, which occurred in the game England Rugby mentioned.

The match took place at Twickenham on 26 November 2022.

In the clip, the duo are seen scuffling and sharing a heated exchange. Springbok players like Siya Kolisi and Makazole Mapimpi are seen trying to separate the
