A clip of Springbok Bongi Mbonambi speaking fluent Afrikaans – the language he is believed to have communicated in when Tom Curry allegedly misheard him – has gone viral.

Last weekend, the English flanker accused the SA hooker of racially abusing him by calling him a “white c**t.” This, allegedly during the Boks semi-final clash against England.

‘WIT KANT’ OR ‘WHITE C**T?

According to a complaint filed by Tom Curry, Bongi Mbonambi is accused of calling the English player a “white c**t.”

However, South Africans believe that Bongi was likely communicating with his teammates in Afrikaans.

According to social media users, Curry misheard Mbonambi saying the words “wit kant” or “wyd kant,” which mean white side [for England] or wide side, respectively.
