Former rapper and music producer Bongani Fassie was a victim of a gruesome attack a few weeks ago in Randburg, Johannesburg, when an unknown man charged at him with a panga.

According to Zimoja, the child star – who is the son of late South African pop icon Brenda Fassie – sustained a black eye and three deep cuts on his arm during the attack.

Fassie told the publication that he was driving with his car window down when the unknown man assaulted him.

“I don’t know who the man is. I just saw him come at me with a panga. I was driving with a friend with my window down,” he was quoted as saying.

The Finding Bongani reality TV star said that the man in question wanted to stab him in his chest.

“But I grabbed him, tried to disarm him and he butchered my arm. He cut me but I continued to fight,” he added.

According to Sunday World, Fassie did not open a case because he wants “to pick and choose his fights”.

“I dealt with enough of the circus tricks when my mom [Brenda Fassie] passed away, so I am picky about which battles I take on. I have very little trust in those who work in the justice system,” he was quoted as saying.

Fassie also revealed that prior to the attack, he received death threats. As a result, he believes that someone is out to kill him. He labelled the incident “a planned assassination”.

“I first received a message saying, it should have been me who died instead of AKA,” he said.

Rapper AKA, real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was murdered in cold blood outside Wish on Florida restaurant when two gunmen opened fire on him and his team on 10 February.

AKA’s friend and celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane also lost his life during the shooting.

Fassie also said that this was not the first time that he had been attacked. He shared that he was attacked twice about over a year ago.

“I am not okay. I almost died. I am just glad to have lived to tell the tail. I will not lie, I am scared for my life, and I don’t know who to suspect at the moment. All I am doing is focusing on my healing and recovery.”
