Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Andile Dlamini has of late, been the talk of the town ever since a video of her went viral, chanting and singing with fellow team members.

The viral video sees Andile leading her teammates into song, upon arrival at the Wellington Regional Stadium in New Zealand for their Women’s World Cup Opening Match against Sweden.

WHO IS ANDILE DLAMINI?

Hailing from Tembisa Gauteng, Andile Dlamini also known as ‘Sticks’ is the goalkeeper for South Africa’s National Women’s soccer team, Banyana Banyana.

The 30-year-old goalie previously played for Phomolong Ladies before joining the Mamelodi Sundowns Women’s team.

Andile made her first appearance for the South African national team against Botswana in 2011. Dlamini has also participated in the 2019-2020 SAFA National Women’s League Champions, 2020-2021 Hollywoodbets Super League Team of the Year and played in the 2021-2022 CAF Women’s Champions League.

In addition to this the goalkeeper has received the Player of the Match accolade against Malabo Kings at the CAF Women’s Champions League.

In March 2023 Dlamini was awarded as the SA Sports Star of the Year by the South African Sports Awards.

“I felt so special. The other two athletes represent the country with such pride. It takes a brave person to represent the country with pride. I even cried because I just thought, what is happening in my life. We are where we are because God wants you to inspire and break negativity”, Andile told Robert Marawa during an interview on MSW.

Not only is Andile a phenomenal goalkeeper, but she is also an amzing singer with a passion for music.

In an article by BBC, the soccer player revealed that she has released 10 songs, however sports has taken centre stage in her life.

“They’re both my careers – but right now, football is dominating,” Dlamini shared.
