A young bridesmaid has gone viral after sharing how much money she forked out at her friend’s wedding just for the marriage to last for two weeks. Unsurprisingly, her post sparked an interesting conversation around the sometimes ridiculous price of weddings and the even more absurd idea that the bridal party or groomsmen are forced to pay outrageous amounts of money just to be a part of the wedding.

In the comment section of her Reddit post, many sympathised with her while agreeing that over-the-top weddings are overrated.

Bridesmaid shared how much money she paid to be in wedding

A young bridesmaid recently shed an important light on the ridiculous costs of weddings these days.

While in the past, weddings were mostly about the union, they have now become extravagant affairs which require ridiculous amounts of money.

What made this even worse for the young woman was the fact the couple’s union didn’t even last longer than three weeks.

“I know it sounds selfish, but I can’t help feeling so upset at the amount of effort I went to and money I spent on making it amazing for her,” she wrote in a Reddit post.

According to her, the bride — and soon-to-be divorcee — is acting very nonchalant about everything, even though the wedding party paid thousands to make the day special.

“She is being so blasé about the whole situation and laughing about it being the shortest marriage, she knew it wasn’t going to last, etc.’’

“She said she didn’t want to let people down and would’ve been embarrassed to cancel. She wanted her fairytale day and the wedding of dreams.”

“I think putting that kind of financial pressure on people is extremely unfair.”

“ Back in the days, it never used to be like this, well at least where I’m from, the bride used to take care of everything, but now, yes, you pay for everything. For me, it’s ridiculous because you are the one inviting me!”
