Five bombshells from alleged fake doctor: ‘Dr Matthews Lani’
TikToker Dr Matthews Lani is being questioned about his age, qualifications, names, his work and social media accounts.

Popular Tiktoker Dr Matthews Lani, who’s reportedly been giving medical advice has been exposed for allegedly lying about his identity and qualifications.

WHO IS THE REAL DR MATTHEWS?
Dr Matthews Lani, who’s got over 200 000 followers on TikTok has been trending on Twitter after the medical community and social media users called him out for allegedly lying about his identity and qualifications.
NAMES
The TikToker says he doesn’t use his real names on social media and claims his real name is Dr S Zingelwa. He adds that he finished medical school at 21 and completed high school at 16 after skipping a few grades. His LinkedIn profile says he is a “content creator” for Future Life and Nando’s.
A doctor on Twitter with a handle @kgotlelelo_Pers, who studied with the real Dr S Zingelwa says “Dr Matthews Lani” stole her former co-worker’s identity.
“Bathong! Not that badge, hey? I know Dr S Zingelwa. It’s not him! I worked with Dr Zingelwa last year (his first year of internship) at Tembisa Hospital during my Paediatrics rotation. Also, Dr Zingelwa did Medicine in Cuba! He just collaborated at Wits. This man is lying!” she tweeted.
QUALIFICATIONS
He also revealed in a video that he doesn’t have a Matric Certificate but a Diploma from Cambridge University. South African doctors on social media have challenged him to prove his credentials after raising numerous red flags regarding his claims. Fellows Wits Student who attended the university at the same time as the TikToker reveal they’ve never met him.
“Dr Matthew Lani” also revealed he studied YMCMB instead of MBChB in a video of Twitter.
Iharare reports that he is not registered with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), which is a requirement for anyone practicing medicine in the country.
AGE
The social media influencer, who claims to be a doctor apparently finished matric at 16 after skipping grades four, six and eight. He says that he finished medical school at the age of 21 and is currently 24 years. His age as per official records on the Home Affairs website however don’t align with these claims.

WITS SPEAKS ON ALLEGED FAKE DOCTOR
WITS has requested the TikToker and influencer “Dr Matthew Lani” to retract his claims that he studied there with immediate effect.
“Following claims made by “Dr Matthew Lani” on social media and based on the facts at hand. Wits cannot find any person who graduated by the name of Matthew Bongani Zingelwa or Sanele Zingelwa in recent years,” said the university.
@BrentLindeque reports that @futurelifeza and @NandosSA have distanced themselves from him.. The Gauteng Health Department has also removed the video of him posted to X on Youth Day last year.
