‘What’s happening?’: FNB users PANIC as App malfunctions

FNB customers were unimpressed with the bank over the weekend as they could not access their accounts via the app.

First National Bank (FNB) customers revealed on social media that they were unable to access their accounts on the bank’s app throughout the weekend..

South Africans and Zambians using FNB were left stranded from Friday, 1 September to Monday, 4 September as they were not able to use the banking app.

@Life_After_18 tweeted on Saturday, 2 September: “What’s happening with the FNB app.”

@nicki_D_ asked on Monday, 4 September: “Is your banking App down @FNBSA and if so, do you even care to let your clients know?”

@MphoMmafefe tweeted on Monday: “Kindly advise if something is wrong with FNB app trying to purchase airtime and I receive error message.”

@Rb__sa replied: “Hi Mpho, thanks for reaching out. Please note that our tech teams are currently investigating the issues. RB.”

Customers received an apology on Twitter on Sunday, 3 September that said the bank is experiencing a technical challenge that is impacting their ATMs, cellphone banking and card payments.

“Notice to our valued customers. We would like to inform our valued customers that we are experiencing a technical challenge that is impacting our ATMs, Cell phone banking, and Card payments.”

“An update will be provided once service is restored. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Customers are encouraged to use the FNB App or Online banking to transact.”

Though the bank revealed on Sunday, 3 September that services on their ATMs, cellphone banking and card payments were restored, customers still experienced problems logging onto their apps on Monday, 4 September.

@nicki_D_ tweeted on Monday, 4 September: “Just now, I can’t use your banking app! Lena le busy le fana ka chelete tsa rona mo twitter!” (I can’t use the app and you’re busy giving away our money on Twitter).
