Desmond Koolen’s I Feel Good TikTok video received over 10 million views after award-winning actor Will Smith shared it on his Instagram account this week.
The video of the seven-year-old boy Desmond Koolen performing his rendition of James Brown’s I Feel Good also caught the attention of A-listers such as Wayne Brady’s, Keri Hilson, Will Smith on social media.
Adele Koolen, who is Desmond’s adoptive mother tells Sowetan that she and her husband Johan adopted Desmond when he was nearly four years old.
“We took him from foster care in 2020 and his adoption was finalised in 2021. When we first took him home with us, Desi didn’t speak a word of English. He was so tiny and had the cutest little personality. Within six weeks he learnt how to communicate in English,” she said.
His mother adds his first voice-over advert was for Jungle Bites when he was four years old and she’s enrolled him for drama classes in 2022 and he’s just gone from strength to strength.
Jacaranda Fm reports that the seven-year-old will be participating in the SA Championships this Friday, 29 September.
The radio station adds that Desmond has also won three golds (two solo & one group) in acting and two junior diplomas in vocal at the National Eisteddfod.
Adele adds that they plan to keep Desmond in touch with his African heritage as part of his upbringing and journey.
“I always strive to ensure that he remembers where he comes from.”
Popular actor Will Smith, who turned 55 years this week took to his Instagram account to share Desmond Koolen’s video on Monday, 25 September and captioned it:
