South Africans got a taste of their first-ever Hey Neighbour music festival. But while many were over the moon to experience the likes of Kendrick Lamar, The Chain Smokers, and Swedish House Mafia, others called the experience a “logistical nightmare.”

The three-day concert  – held at the Legends Adventure Farm in Pretoria – kicked off on Friday and ended on Sunday. Joining the international acts were local musos like Nasty C, Tyla, and Sho Madjozi.

UBER NIGHTMARE FOR HEY NEIGHBOUR REVELLERS

On social media, Hey Neighbour concert-goers were full of praise for Kendrick Lamar, who rocked the stage on Friday.

But many revellers were not fans of the long wait for E-hailing apps like Uber.

Some even claimed to have paid a small fortune to travel home.

Here’s what a few X users had to say about their experiences.

@MissDima_Z: “It took us over 3 hours to get an Uber. We were legit stranded. I almost broke down. We had to walk to the main road because Ubers couldn’t get in and out. People switched off their cars and slept.”

@saxmanyabisa: “People paid R1000 to Uber from Hey Neighbour to Sunnyside.”

@MikhailAmod: “Kendrick live is something else. But Hey Neighbour is so poorly organized. Spent more time in queues than anything else, and no signal, so it took an hour to find an Uber.”

@Ms_LK01: “Uber from Hey Neighbour is a logistical nightmare. Just don’t do it unless you are willing to walk a few kms to meet your driver on the way.”

Even entertainment blogger Phil Mphela weighed in. He tweeted: Tjo! My friend can’t get an Uber out of Hey Neighbour, and there is nothing I can do to help. It took us about 2 hours or even 3 to get out.”

WATER AND LIGHTS ISSUES TOO

According to EWN, Hey Neighbour campers also experienced water and electricity interruptions.

Others claimed that there was a lack of accessible seating and entry for people with disabilities.

One tweep posted: “Hey Neighbour was a disaster on so many levels, but I feel like the organisers forgot about people the moment the ticket money hit their accounts.”
