Security company, Fidelity SecureDrive has revealed five cars and three provinces targeted by hijackers in South Africa.

The Security company Fidelity reveals that there are 66 vehicles that are stolen every day in South Africa with certain Toyota and Volkswagen cars targeted by hijackers over others.

Businesstech reports that the Western Cape, Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal recorded the largest proportions of incidents. 2984 incidents were recorded in Gauteng, followed by Western Cape with 887 and KZN with 880 hijackings between July to September 2023.
According to Fidelity’s data, hijackers most often target Toyota, Volkswagen, and Nissan vehicles:

The police have warned of an increased number of incidents being perpetrated by fake police officials. The South African Police Service (SAPS) officials indicated that a white Toyota Hilux double cab and / or a white VW Polo are the vehicles which are typically used to trap motorists, with incidents reported in the following areas:
