FIVE cars targeted by hijackers in South Africa right now
Security company, Fidelity SecureDrive has revealed five cars and three provinces targeted by hijackers in South Africa.

The Security company Fidelity reveals that there are 66 vehicles that are stolen every day in South Africa with certain Toyota and Volkswagen cars targeted by hijackers over others.

FIVE CARS TARGETED BY HIJACKERS
Businesstech reports that the Western Cape, Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal recorded the largest proportions of incidents. 2984 incidents were recorded in Gauteng, followed by Western Cape with 887 and KZN with 880 hijackings between July to September 2023.
According to Fidelity’s data, hijackers most often target Toyota, Volkswagen, and Nissan vehicles:
- Toyota Hilux, Fortuner, and Corollas
- Volkswagen Polo
- Nissan NP200

HOTSPOTS IN THREE PROVINCES
The police have warned of an increased number of incidents being perpetrated by fake police officials. The South African Police Service (SAPS) officials indicated that a white Toyota Hilux double cab and / or a white VW Polo are the vehicles which are typically used to trap motorists, with incidents reported in the following areas:
- Bekkersdal – R28 road and N12
- Carletonville – Blybank road & Randfontein road
- Fochville – Corner N12 and R500.
- Randfontein – R559 – R28 and N14
Tips provided:
- Do not stop at a deserted spot or area to talk on your phone or even relieve yourself;
- Always keep your windows closed;
- If someone tries to force you out of the road, don’t panic but just blow your horn constantly to draw attention;
- Do not stop for hitchhikers, even if it is a female hiker with a crying baby.
The most targeted areas in KwaZulu-Natal:
- Umlazi
- Bhekithemba
Gauteng hotspots are:
- Protea
- Moroka
- Orange Farm
- Bramley
- Olievenhoutbosch
Westen Cape areas to avoid include:
- Harare
- Nyanga
- Philippi East
- Delft
- Mfuleni
