Couple behead themselves using guillotine in ritual sacrifice

A couple in India has comitted suicide by decapitating themselves with a makeshift guillotine at the weekend.

According to Times of India, the incident took place in the Vinchiya village of Vinchiya taluka where the couple in their 30s was giving themselves as human sacrifice in a ritual.

Police said that farmer Hemubhai Makwana, 38, and his 35-year-old wife Hansaben “severed” their heads from their bodies with an improvised guillotine mechanism. The deceased are parents of two children — a 13-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter.

Before taking their lives, they reportedly left a suicide note saying no one was to blame for their deaths as they killed themselves willingly.

According to the Mirror, their headless bodies were discovered by their children who had returned home from their uncle’s.

A police spokesperson said: “It is believed that they pulled up the blades of the guillotine themselves and released it in such a manner that their heads fell into a ‘havan kund’.”

A ‘havan kund’ is a pit used in fire rituals where offerings are burnt as a prayer to the gods.

Near the ‘havan kund’ they had placed a makeshift temple and a picture of lord Shiva, along with a mud Shivling (an idol dedicated to Hindu god, Shiva).

POLICE LAUNCH INVESTIGATION

Police said they were not ruling out anything and looking into all aspects in their investigation.

“We are recording statements of the family members and trying to know the reason behind the couple’s extreme step.

“We will get a clear picture once we record statements of all the family members.”
