For the second time in a few days, the SABC has managed to upset South Africans by depriving them of another important sports match – Bafana Bafana vs DRC.

The public broadcaster came under fire after it did not broadcast the friendly fixture, which took place on Tuesday evening at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

The blunder comes shortly after SABC Plus’s app and website failed to stream the Springboks’ first Rugby World Cup match on Sunday.

SABC IRKS MZANSI BY NOT BROADCASTING BAFANA MATCH

According to SportsBrief, the match was not televised, and fans were encouraged to stream the game online via SABC Sport.

But as it did a few days ago, the site buckled under the pressure and experienced technical difficulties that prevented them from showing the match altogether.

On social media, soccer fans also questioned why a local match was not televised as usual sports content, but international ones were.

Here’s what Twitter – or X users had to say:

@Mlu__N2: “SABC is failing to broadcast the Bafana Bafana home game, but they expect us to pay TV licenses.”

@Anelefumba: “SABC and Bafana Bafana are very useless. Asking people to stream a game being played at home is actually an insult to the people.”

@Madumetja__M08: “Another sickening pandemic in South Africa is SABC and @DStv. Imagine not televising Bafana Bafana, but they’ll show us European games.”

@tshembhani: “So SABC and Supersport are not televising Bafana Bafana but expect us to go to stadiums… On top of that, Sabc was crying to broadcast the Rugby World Cup…DISAPPOINTED”

TECHNICAL GLITCHES RUIN SPRINGBOKS’ FANS EXPERIENCE

Meanwhile, the SABC apologised for not streaming the Springboks vs Scotland game on the website and app.

In a last-minute deal on Thursday, the public broadcaster revealed that they acquired a sub-licensing deal from SuperSport to air 16 out of 48 Rugby World Cup matches.

This meant that non-DStv subscribers could watch the match on SABC 2 or via the SABC Plus app. But things went horribly wrong just minutes before kick-off when the app crashed.

In a statement, SBC Sport claimed they were “aware” of the issue, which technicians were reportedly attending to.
