Man gets three life sentences for violating protection order

The man, identified as Philani Protus Mdlolo, was sentenced in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court this week.

MAN GRABBED WOMAN IN KZN

According to police, the woman was walking along Garfield Street in Pietermaritzburg on 9 April 2021, when she came across Mdlolo.

“The man grabbed and covered her face with a cloth. He took her into his vehicle and drove off to his place of residence at eZinketheni, Pietermaritzburg. He assaulted, threatened, and repeatedly raped her,” said Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo.

The victim managed to get away the following day and reported the matter to Pietermaritzburg police.

“The suspect was subsequently arrested and made several court appearances until he was convicted and sentenced.”

In another case, a man handed himself into the police for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death. He allegedly stabbed his 27-year-old girlfriend on Saturday morning at about 1:30 and then fled the scene.

“The suspect was later apprehended after intervention by his family who called the police while at his hideout in the bush and voluntarily handed himself,” said Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba.

According to Ledwaba, when he arrived home, the couple started to fight, which resulted in the victim “being stabbed on the upper body with a sharp object.”

The police and members of the Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and subsequently found the woman lying in a pool of blood. She was declared dead at the scene.
