ARE ZAMA ZAMAS TO BLAME FOR THE SOWETO EXPLOSION?

It is reported that at least one person was killed in Braamfischerville in Soweto when the explosion occurred. The incident was quickly linked to illegal mining in the area.
Illegal mining operated by the infamous Zama Zama group is reported to be rife in the area, with numerous development of sinkholes as a result of the activities in the area.

CITY OF JOBURG EMS CLEAR THE AIR ABOUT THE INCIDENT

However, City of Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo told the media the explosion resulted from dynamite connected to a vehicle battery.
“Three people were affected by the blast. One person has died from injuries sustained from the explosion. One person was rushed to hospital, and the other sustained minor injuries,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said the blast reported in Braamfischerville is unrelated to the one in the Johannesburg CBD.
However, many still do not rule out the Zama Zamas involvement as the probe into Joburg CBD disaster unfolds.
