Rand Water – few days to restore water in Ekurhuleni and Tshwane

Rand Water says that it will take a few days to restore full water supply to Ekurhuleni and the City of Tshwane.

Rand Water said in a statement that it will take a few days for the water supply in Ekurhuleni and Tshwane to stabilise after the restoration of power to the Mapleton Booster Station.

BOTH METROS EXPERIENCE WATER INTERRUPTIONS

Rand Water says that many residents from both metros experienced water interruptions. Rand Water warned that “the system will require a recovery period of up to one week to fully stabilise.”

The booster station halted pumping on Friday due to a power failure, leaving parts of Tshwane and Ekurhuleni without water.

RAND WATER SPOKESPERSON ON THE MATTER

Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo said the station got full pumping capacity in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“The re-energizing process commenced at 1:05 and by 2:30 the booster station achieved full pumping capacity. This marks a significant milestone in our efforts to ensure that water supply is fully restored to the affected areas.”

“It is important to note that there will not be an immediate relief in the water supply system. The system will require a recovery period of up to one week to fully stabilise.”

On 12 April, the City of Tshwane warned residents to expect water supply issues in some suburbs due to emergency repair work by Rand Water on a water leak.

The utility was working on the B8 pipeline from Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant to Mapleton Booster Pumping Station until 12:00 noon.

“According to the utility, the leak is increasingly serious and will result in an increase in non-revenue water. The repair will take 8 hours to conclude. During this period, the Mapleton System will be reduced by 82%.”
