Spelling bee competition: ‘Skeem Saam’s’ Wallet takes on ‘Uzalo’s’ Nyawo

Viewers of ‘Skeem Saam’ and ‘Uzalo’ will see their fan-favourites, Wallet and Nyawo compete in a spelling bee competition this Thursday.

Viewers of SABC 1’s educational soapie, Skeem Saam are about to witness the show’s third crossover this week between Wallet and Uzalo’s Nyawo.  

The soapie had its first crossover in December 2020 when Mxolisi from Uzalo terrorised the Turfloop residents and when Kat and Kwaito visited 7de Laan in April.

THE SPELLING BEE COMPETITION  

Uzalo’s fan-favourite policeman, Nyawo will take on Wallet from Skeem Saam at the National Spelling Bee Competition.  

The TVSA Thursday, 23 December teaser reads:  

“Nyawo takes on Wallet in the spelling bee competition.” 

Viewers of the SABC 1 soapies are in for a surprise when the two walking dictionaries will take on each other at the competition.  

It all began when Nyawo recently won R50 000 at the KwaMashu Talent Show and received an invitation from the National Spelling Bee Competition.  

Nyawo has been preparing for the competition with the help of his colleague, Lily Dongwe, and other police officers.

WALLET THE POET  

Skeem Saam viewers will be thrilled to see their favourite poet, Wallet played by Molefi Monaisa this Thursday.

The 47-year-old actor hasn’t made any appearances in the past three months.   

Monaisa has been playing the role of Ntate Wallet since 2011 on the soapie Skeem Saam.  

His character is a poet who recites poems about other characters on the show and his own life.  

Wallet is known for always carrying his poetry books in his briefcase, drinking Earl Grey tea whenever he visits people, and his perfect English accent.

NYAWO: THE WALKING DICTIONARY  

Uzalo actor Cebolenkosi Mthembu, who plays the role of Nyawo is known for dropping English jargon.   

Viewers of the popular soapie will also now know if his vocabulary exists and if he deserves to be called ‘Mr Oxford’.  

Nyayo has been bragging about winning the KwaMashu talent competition and will be devastated if he loses the spelling bee competition because it’s close to his heart.

‘UZALO’S’ FIRST CROSSOVER  

This is the second time that Skeem Saam and Uzalo are having a crossover.   

The SABC 1 soapies had their first crossover a year ago (December 2020) when Uzalo’s Nay Maps appeared in Skeem Saam as Mxolisi.  

He was KwaMashu’s resident car hijacker and ran away just as the police were about to nab him and stole from the Turfloop residents.

PREVIOUS ‘SKEEM SAAM’ CROSSOVERS  

The show had its second crossover in April when Skeem Saam met 7de Laan in Hillside.

SABC 2’s Afrikaans soapie, 7de Laan aired three special episodes featuring Skeem Saam’s, Kat (Patrick Seleka) and Kwaito (Clement Maosa).  

Kat and Kwaito visited the Welmans affluent restaurant, Beleef in Hillside as part of a comedic storyline between themselves and 7de Laan’s Ivy (Nazli George) and Blyde (Blyde Smit).  

Viewers of the Afrikaans soapie thoroughly enjoyed this as it was 7de Laan’s first crossover.
