Soapie Fans: ‘7de Laan was nice with Paula and Oom Oubaas’
‘7de Laan’ fans took to social media on Monday, 17 July to bid farewell to the SABC2 long running Afrikaans soapie.

7de Laan fans aka The Laanies expressed disappointment on social media after their favourite SABC soapie confirmed it’s ending after 23 years on TV.

‘7DE LAAN’ FANS HEARTBROKEN
The soapie 7de Laan confirmed on their social media accounts on Monday, 17 July that their final episode will air on 26 December 2023.
The show also thanked its loyal viewers for being on the journey with the soapie for over twenty years.

SOAPIE: FAN-FAVOURITE CHARACTERS
Viewers of the popular SABC2 soapie 7de Laan agreed that the show has never been the same since Oubaas (played by Pierre van Pletzen), his on-screen wife, Hilda (Annelisa Weiland), and Paula van der Lecq (Diaan Lawrenson) exited the show years ago.
Van Pletzen, who was arguably one of the most likeable characters, left the show six years ago, with Weiland following suit.
Paula and Oom Oubaas brought humour and liveliness to 7de Laan and even made non-Afrikaans speakers want to watch the show.
The fan-favourite characters, who kept viewers glued to the screen for more than a decade were not the only fan favourites who exited the show.
Others characters who left the Laan, include Charmaine Meintjies (Vinette Ebrahim), Vince Meintjies (Jacques Blignaut), Xander Meintjies (Theodore Jantjies) and Matron Netta Nortjie (Annelize van der Ryst).
