‘Gqeberha: The Empire’ loses more viewers on DStv

Tshedza Pictures’ isiXhosa telenovela ‘Gqeberha: The Empire’ lost more viewers in March and was placed in tenth position on DStv.

The latest figures from the Television Audience Measurement (TAM) reveal that Gqeberha: The Empire lost more viewers in March.

‘GQEBERHA: THE EMPIRE’ LOSES MORE VIEWERS

The Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA) March figures reveal that Qgeberha: The Empire received over 580 000 viewers.

The Eastern Cape-based show dropped from the top fifth position in February to tenth position in March.

The figures also reveal that Rhythm World’s popular telenovela Sibongile and The Dlaminis dethroned Umkhokha: The Curse.

Sibongile is now the most-watched TV show on DStv with over 1 million viewers, while Umkhokha: The Curse follows with more than 800 000 viewers.

TVSA reports that the isiXhosa telenovela scored 862 172 viewers in January while Umkhokha scored 862 172 viewers in January.

ACTORS WHO EXITED THE SHOW

Popular actress Akhenime Mfenyana, who portrays the character of Anathi Mxenge exited Gqeberha: The Empire this April.

Other actors who left the show include Zikhona Sodlaka, who played Bullet and Mbulelo Grootboom, who played Luzuko Mxenge.

Viewers also saw the departure of Phila Madingozi who got replaced by Oros Mampofu as the second Ntando Mxenge.

Former Scandal! actor Bongile Mantsai also joined the end of season one as Luzuko’s brother, Hlumelo Mxenge.
