Generations: The Legacy’s has raised the ire of its viewers who are uncomfortable with the use of intense witchcraft on the show.

The latest storyline between Kumkani Gadaffi Phakade (Vuya Dabula) and Oby Phakade (Khabonina Qubeka) has incorporated plots that involve witchcraft, hypnotism and human cannibalism.

Oby is a Nigerian diplomat who practises witchcraft by drugging people with her own branded tea and controls them through hypnotism.

  • She also appeases her ancestors by eating human livers mixed with her blood.
  • She hypnotised Siyanda (Kay Sibiya)  last week and tried to kill him so she can get his liver when Kumkani couldn’t assist her.
  • She came back to South Africa to avenge her brother’s (Okiri) death and is desperate to punish the person responsible.
  • She found out that Ayanda (Samela Tyelbooi)  is the one who got her brother killed and also snitched on her husband Kumkani to the police.

The duo plans to turn their common enemy, Ayanda into a zombie so they use her and own her.

This is the second time Kumkani is involved in a witchcraft storyline. In 2016 Kumkani and his then-wife Tshidi Phakade (Letoya Makhene) also trended for practising witchcraft.

  • The duo regularly visited a sangoma who instructed Tshidi to bathe in herbs and blood and was given a huge snake called Mamlambo to keep in their house.
  • The snake protected them from their enemies as long as she was fed a human being as a sacrifice.
  • When they were ultimately asked to sacrifice their adopted son Thapelo they refused and things went south for them.
