eMedia refutes claims ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ is stolen property

eMedia has rubbished allegations about ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ telenovela being allegedly stolen from Tebogo Ramakgodi.

eMedia denies allegations that Smoke and Mirrors is stolen from producer Tebogo Ramakgodi.

EMEDIA: ‘THE TITLE IS NOT A UNIQUE NAME’

According to Sunday World, eMedia revealed that any alleged similarity to Smoke and Mirrors or many other dramas is purely coincidental.

The channel adds it received an unsolicited proposal from Tebogo Ramokgodi who was a series producer in September 2021.

The channel said in statement: “The idea was for a completely different show about a royal family and their celebrity couple friends grappling with their own sexual identities in the midst of change and a shifting power scale.”

“The show and concept, like many other pitches, was not accepted. The title Smoke and Mirrors is not a unique name and is a general phrase used in everyday language and by many other producers for album and song titles, and also across many industries.”

‘SMOKE AND MIRRORS’ REPLACES ‘IMBEWU’

The Final Chapter Production replaced popular telenovela Imbewu: The Seed from Monday, 17 April. 

The new telenovela stars Ayanda Bandla, who plays a hairdresser by day and an escort by night and intends on removing The Unholy Trinity, who are corrupt men who run the small town. 

Other cast members include; Caesar, played by Zolisa Xaluva, Jaxon, played by Meshack Mavuso – Magabane, Mthetho, played by Kabomo Vilakazi, Mpendulo Mseleku, and Thandiswa’s son, is played by Khayalethu Xaba. 

Loyiso Maqoma, who is the creator, writer, and producer old City Press that they’ve cooked up a story that is gripping at its core.

“A lot of research went into putting the show together and in the end, we are happy to say we have a good product to show and tell.”

Maqoma added that the introduction of the show opens a world that hasn’t been explored before.

“The combination of this story and cast will simply blow our audience’s minds away.”Smoke & Mirrors currently plays weekdays on e.tv at 9 pm.
