E.tv’s ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ replaces ‘Imbewu: The Seed’

E.tv’s latest telenovela ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ will replace long-running show ‘Imbewu: The Seed’ from 17 April.

E.tv has confirmed that Smoke and Mirrors will take over Imbewu: The Seed’s 9 pm slot, when the telenovela ends this month.

BACKGROUND OF ‘SMOKE AND MIRRORS’

The popular telenovela Imbewu: The Seed which is created by Duma Ndlovu and executive producers Anant Singh and Leleti Khumalo will be replaced by Smoke and Mirrors, which is created by The Final Chapter Production.

The new show involves a small mining town, Emnyameni, and focuses on Thandiswa (played by Ayanda Bandla). She’s a hairdresser by day and an escort by night and intends on removing The Unholy Trinity, who are corrupt men who run the small town. 

Other cast members include; Caesar, played by Zolisa Xaluva, Jaxon, played by Meshack Mavuso – Magabane, Mthetho, played by Kabomo Vilakazi, Mpendulo Mseleku, and Thandiswa’s son, is played by Khayalethu Xaba. 

Loyiso Maqoma, who is creator, writer, and producer for Smoke and Mirrors, told City Press: 

“We’ve cooked up a story that is gripping at its core but yet has multiple facets that resonate with the viewer. A lot of research went into putting the show together and in the end, we are happy to say we have a good product to show and tell.”

Helga Palmer, head of local programming at e.tv says the channel is focusing on introducing untold stories to the South African audience and promises entertainment like no other. 

“The introduction of Smoke and Mirrors opens a world that hasn’t been explored before. The combination of this story and cast will simply blow our audience’s minds away.”

THE END OF ‘IMBEWU: THE SEED’

E.tv’s third most-watched show Imbewu: The Seed was introduced to South Africans on April 2017 and centres around two high-profile families, the Bhengus and the Rampersads.

In a joint statement, creator Duma Ndlovu and executive producers Anant Singh and Leleti Khumalo told Sunday World that they are proud to have created a trailblazing show that showcased the multicultural environment of Durban and KwaZulu-Natal.

Imbewu changed the face of the daily drama offering on South African television with its unique storylines, cliffhangers, and high drama, resulting in it becoming one of the most-watched shows. We are grateful to our broadcast partner e.tv for their support and for the opportunity.”

Helga Palmer, head of local programming at e.tv thanked the production for its commitment to delivering five great seasons of compelling stories.

“The show managed to dethrone its biggest competitor in the 9 pm slot and is currently the most-viewed show in the late-night slot. We are proud to be ending on a high.”

Smoke and Mirrors premiers on April 17 on e.tv (DStv channel 194) at 9 pm.
