How Nicholas Nkuna pulled off ‘7de Laan and ‘Erfsondes’ roles

Actor Nicholas Nkuna reveals how he pulled off ‘7de Laan’ and ‘Erfsondes’ roles despite being unable to speak or understand Afrikaans.

NICHOLAS NKUNA: ‘I FOUND IT CHALLENGING’

The 7de Laan and Erfsondes actor Nicholas Nkuna admits to Sowetan that he found it challenging being in an Afrikaans production.  

“I found it quite challenging taking up my first role on an Afrikaans production because I don’t really understand the language… I just grab it here and there. However, I decided to throw myself in completely and did my best to know and study my script so that I could understand the concepts of the scenes.

He adds that he slowly started getting the hang of things as he was on 7de Laan for five years and was luckily only required to speak English while acting out his role.

Despite being unable to speak or understand Afrikaans adequately, actor and singer Nicholas Nkuna pulled off a convincing act in SABC2’s 7de Laan and Erfsondes.

Nkuna, who is fluent in English, Swati, Zulu, and Tsonga played Fikani in SABC2 soapie and Nkululeko “Freedom” Nkosi in Erfsondes. 

The publication reveals that he starred alongside Salamina Mosese, Charlie Bouguenon, Nobuhle Mahlasela, Kaz McFadden, Hildegardt Whites, and Marié Botha.

‘7DE LAAN’ STAR: CURRENT ROLE IN ‘GENERATIONS’

It is unclear if the actor Nicholas Nkuna will return to either 7de Laan or Erfsonders as he recently joined Generations: The Legacy as journalist Anathi Mpofu. 

The talented actor Nicholas Nkuna, who plays Alexa Willman’s husband Fikani in 7de Laan and played a professor in Skeem Saam made his debut in Generations: The Legacy as Anathi Mpofu on Wednesday 8 March.

The publication adds that Nkuna’s latest character is a seductive bad boy who’ll do anything to get the story, no matter the cost.

On his new role as Anathi Mpofu on Generations: The Legacy, the actor told The Citizen in a statement:

“Generations is one of those shows, when I grew up, it has always been like a dream of mine to be part of the show and what the show has done for South African television, for African television. I wanted to be part of that dream! It is actually not the first time that I screened for the show. This was the third time. It means in life, if you want something you’ve got to fight for it.”
