SIZWE ALAKINE’S FIERY DEBUT

After years in the hip-hop industry as one of South Africa’s most talented rappers, Reason decided to dive into amapiano as Sizwe Alakine.

After his amapiano debut on Khanda Shisa, Sizwe Alakine collaborated with a number of other artists in the genre including Mr JazziQ, Kamo Mphela and Mellow and Sleazy.

Speaking to Tecla Ciolfi on her Texx and the City podcast in 2021, Reason clarified that Sizwe Alakine was just an alter ego.

“I just didn’t feel like it made sense to use the same name when it comes to releasing amapiano and various other genres,” he explained.

NEW DEAL WITH WARNER MUSIC SOUTH AFRICA

Taking to Instagram on Thursday 10 February, Sizwe Alakine shared that he secured a record deal with Warner Music South Africa.

Speaking to Music in Africa, Sizwe Alakine said he had been searching for the best deal for him and his legacy for the past five years.

“After all that I’ve done independently, I needed to work with a company that could do more than I could for myself,” he added.

Warner Music South Africa creative lead, Garth Brown said the vocalist had proven himself as a true artist who is “able to actively capture audiences”.

“His ability to effortlessly transition between genres is what the genetic fibre of legends are made of and we are honoured to be a part of his story,” added Brown.
