Backlash after Britney’s bombshell memoir

In October 2023, Justin’s ex-girlfriend Britney Spears dropped the bombshell that she fell pregnant while dating the singer, and was forced to get an abortion.

Britney’s memoir, The Woman In Me includes a blow-by-blow account of how she first met Justin at the age of 11, when the two were cast in the Mickey Mouse Club until they eventually began dating from 1999 to 2002.

Justin Timberlake and Britney were in a relationship during their late teens into their early adulthood.

Britney shared that Justin, who was a member of the boyband N’Sync at the time, was not happy when he found out she was pregnant, and told her they were too young to be parents.

In an excerpt, Britney shared that although they were both rising stars at the time, if the decision was left entirely up to her, she would not have gone through with an abortion.

“For me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day.

This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated. The pregnancy was a surprise for me, it wasn’t a tragedy.”

Justin Timberlake’s “Selfish” comeback to the music industry

The title of Justin’s latest single is being scrutinised by some who feel the song may be a subliminal response to Britney yet again.

This wouldn’t be the first time Justin sent Britney a message in a song.

Shortly after their breakup, Justin released Cry Me A River, and implied that the reason for their breakup was because Britney cheated on him.

Britney then responded by releasing her haunting ballad, Everytime, which had people believing the song was about her breakup with the boyband sensation.

But, since her memoir, fans have revisited the music video which ends with two women in a hospital, one who dies, and one who has just given birth, linking Britney’s song to the baby she allegedly aborted.

While Justin hasn’t shared the inspiration to his latest track, the lyrics centre around a jealous lover who is a little selfish about his love for his significant other.
