Podcast and Chill with Mac G has proven to be trendier than ever being one of very few South African podcasts to reach a million subscribers.  The podcast which has been entertaining the masses for five years hit the big milestone on Tuesday.

In the typical fashion of letting Twitter know when you’ve made it, Mac G was no different, thanking all those that he believes made the achievement possible. Twitter has since been a buzz, with many congratulations pouring in.

Podcast and Chill with Mac G: The start of One million

Hosted by DJ and media personality, Mac G and radio personality, Sol Phenduka, with the occasional chip in by Ghost Lady, the podcast has steadily grown into the defining platform for views on pop culture, gossip, politics and all things that attract the young and sometimes the old, in a way that some may describe as a little too unfiltered.

It’s a space where the class clown meets the guy who reads the newspaper with a surprise visit by some celebrity neighbour who’s about to spill gossip that they probably shouldn’t.

Love it or hate it, it’s influence has been felt whether it has trended for the right or the wrong reasons.

Podcast and Chill with Mac G: 5 Years of Controversy

What has coined the title of arguably South Africa’s biggest podcast, the five years have been marred with controversy, ranging from its guests to the hosts themselves. Many will remember the problematic remarks of politicians like John Steenhuisen who openly compared his wife to roadkill, in what some have defended as a joke.

Or perhaps one can look at the infamous visit of rapper and TV host, Jub-Jub to the podcast, where he said some unsavory things about his relationship with Kelly Khumalo and Amanda du Pont, sparking backlash and threats of legal action against him.

With many calls for the podcast to be discontinued over the years, one million subscribers later and the podcast still remains, with its network expanding and various other faces joining the mix.
