The embattled South African Music Awards (Samas) will still take place on Saturday 18 November in what its organiser, the Recording Industry of SA (RiSA), promise to be a “thrilling celebration”.

RiSA released a statement announcing the nominees for the coveted Record of the Year and Music Video of the Year categories on Friday.

NO VENUE YET

It is, however, still not clear where the event ceremony will take place as the organisers did not announce a venue after being dropped by the eThekwini Municipality.

Last week, in a media breafing, ANC KwaZulu Natal Chairperson and MEC for Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) Siboniso Duma said that his department will no longer host the popular music awards show. This came after President Cyril Ramaphosa cautioning Duma against the alleged planned splurge of R28 million for show.

“As an executive authority, having consulted widely with the executive council and other stakeholders I have advised the department to stop the hosting of the South African Music Awards this year.” Duma said.
