Finding the best singer in SA: ‘Idols SA’ season 17 set to premiere this July

The people of Mzansi are seemingly very excited for Unathi, Somizi and Randall to return for the premiere of ‘Idols SA’ season 17.

Idols SA is back! Yes, the journey to find the next Mzansi superstar is about to begin when Idols SA returns on Sunday 11 July at 17:30.

Idols SA Season 17

The Citizen reports that singer and radio personality Unathi Nkayi was the first to announce the 17th season of Idols SA. The singing competition was open to entrants between the ages of 16 and 30 and aims to determine who is the best young singer in South Africa.

Unathi took to social media to announce the 17th season of the show is on the way by posting a video previewing highlights of previous competitions and what can be expected in the 17th season.

“DIE ELEVEN tsa JULY RE KAWU FELAAAAAAAAA???????? Ayeyeeeeeee???? Season 17,” says Unathi in her posted caption.

The judges

It is reported that Unathi will once again be a judge, alongside actor and television personality Somizi Mhlongo and television presenter Randall Abrahams.

Meanwhile, the guest judge this season yet to be announced and will probably only be revealed at the premiere.

It was also reported that Idols SA received 15 000 entries for the new season. The entries closed 12 February – after auditions was done via online means.

Fans react

A lot of fans are excited to see new “characters” on the show.

“I wonder who are the characters on this Idols can’t wait to see them…” said Twitter user, Mxolisi Mpanzarvideos.”Yeeeey can’t wait to see you guys,” said Momo.

“Welcome back. Can’t wait to see you back on our screens on the 11th of July big brother. So excited,” said Selemeng Leboela.

A throwback

Season 16 of Idols SA premiered later than usual last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ran from 2 August 2020 to 13 December 2020. Zama Khumalo was the winner of the 16th season of Idols SA.
