MultiChoice confirms ‘Shaka Ilembe’ will return for season two

MultiChoice South Africa has confirmed that the Bomb Productions Zulu drama, ‘Shaka Ilembe’ will be back for its second season.

After having a successful first season, on Monday, 4 September, MultiChoice confirmed that the popular South African drama series, Shaka Ilembe was given the green light for season two.

HALALA! THERE WILL BE ‘SHAKA ILEMBE’ SEASON TWO!

According to MultiChoice, the first season of the show showcased the origins story of the legendary African King, Shaka KaSenzangakhona’s return to take the Zulu throne. The story also takes a dive into love, war, loss, betrayal, sacrifice, and triumph. And, for season two, the story will reportedly pick up from Shaka’s long prophesied reign into writing himself into history.

MultiChoice CEO General Entertainment Nomsa Philiso spoke on the decision to renew the series. “MultiChoice is really committed to telling the Shaka Ilembe story, and this season two announcement confirms our intentions to honour the iconic figure of King Shaka with a continuation of his story on air,” she was quoted as saying.

Shaka Ilembe is a production by the award-winning Bomb Productions who is also behind the popular productions such as Yizo Yizo, Zone 14, Jacob’s Cross, Isibaya, and more. According to the Bomb website, fans and viewers are promised to see new “stars, characters, and plotlines delivered in the same polish in the second season as they did in the first one.

Speaking about the production, film producer, Desiree Markgraaff revealed that the goal to is reach up to three seasons. “With ambitions of making a series as epic and vast as Game of Thrones, we want to tell the story of the Nguni people who migrated to below the Pongola river and ruled over this verdant land,” he was quoted as saying.

“With three action-packed seasons mapped out, we hope to breathe life into the kings and queens, warriors and witches, spies, slavers, marauders and traders who lived, loved, and fought for this land,” he was quoted as saying.
