SAFTA-winning actor Lawrence Maleka is set to host the 2022 DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards on 25 June. Here’s what you need to know.

The DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards, last held in March 2020, are set to take place on Saturday 25 June at the Sun Bet Arena in Times Square, Pretoria. Some of Mzansi’s top celebrities will gather to celebrate the country’s top achievers in music, television, radio and sports. 

The awards will kick off with the Blue Carpet at 18:00 and the awards ceremony will take place at 20:00. Viewers at home can watch on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161).

LAWRENCE MALEKA TO HOST DSTV MZANSI VIEWERS CHOICE AWARDS 

In the previous years, television presenters Bonang Matheba and Minnie Dlamini hosted the DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards. This year, The River actor Lawrence Maleka has been chosen as the host. 

DStv described the SAFTA-winning actor as a “vibrant” presenter who is “more than capable of hosting a star-studded evening”. 

Lawrence Maleka is also nominated for Favourite TV Presenter alongside Morning Live presenter Leanne Manas, Thembekile Mrototo, Thuso Motaung and Motshidisi Mohono. 

WHO WILL BE PERFORMING? 

The DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards are known for their star-studded lineup and energetic performances and this year is no different. 

The likes of Sjava, Tuks Senganga, Sun-El Musician, Msaki, Zakes Bantwini, Nomfundo Moh and amapiano stars Kamo Mphela, and Pabi Cooper are all set to take the stage.

Other musicians set to take the stage include Boohle, Reece Madlisa, Zuma and Mduduzi Ncube.

WHO IS NOMINATED? 

The race for their Favourite Song Award is fierce with Zakes Bantwini’s and Kasango’s Osama, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa’s Asibe Happy, Young Stunna’s Adiwele and Makhadzi’s Ghanama all up for the award. 

Big Zulu’s chart-topping track, Imali Eningi featuring Intaba Yase Dubai and the late Riky Rick is also nominated for the award.  

The Scorpion Kings, DBN Gogo, Major League DJz, De Mthuda and DJ Shimza are all nominated for Favourite DJ.
