A Toyota Hilux model with a hybrid engine will launch locally in March the Japanese carmaker announced at its State of the Motor Industry event in Johannesburg.

According to Motorpress, the bakkie will feature a 48-volt mild-hybrid electric package. The carmaker says the bakkie benefits from an additional 12kW of power and 65Nm of torque through the motor generator to the engine. Another benefit is regenerative braking and advanced Stop/Start.

The idle speed reduced to 600 r/min, which is good for off-roading and there’s also improved acceleration and fuel efficiency saving of around 5%.
