Introducing the 2024 Ford Ranger Platinum, the country’s newest member of the elite R1-million bakkie club. Even though South Africa’s new-car prices continue to increase, that’s had little impact on the nation’s most popular segment, double-cab bakkies.

As a result, a R1-million bakkie club is not as daft as you might think. And it’s growing all the time. Latest to the elite group is the 2024 Ford Ranger Platinum, a vehicle Ford South Africa calls the, “Most luxurious and sophisticated Ranger ever.”

So, what’s on offer for your seven-figure double-cab bakkie? Well, the firm says the Ranger Platinum takes the bakkie segment into unchartered territory. That’s due to a level of luxury, comfort and refinement normally associated with premium SUVs. Bring it on!

  • There’s a unique grille with a silk chrome finish surrounds.
  • PLATINUM badging resides on the bonnet and lower sections of the front doors.
  • 20-inch, machine-faced alloy wheels with ebony accents wear all-season tyres.
  • The 2024 Ford Ranger Platinum loadbox incorporates a fixed sports hoop and side rails, and Cargo Management System fitted as standard.
  • Innovative and fully adaptive Matrix LED headlights feature the Ranger’s signature C-clamp design.
  • Heated, ventilated and power-adjustment seats are unique to the 2024 Ford Ranger Platinum. They feature premium quilted and perforated leather.

Standard fare on the 2024 Ford Ranger Platinum is a host of trend-setting features found in the Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor. These include:

  • 12-inch touchscreen display with latest-generation SYNC 4A infotainment.
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless charging.
  • SYNC Off-road screen.
  • 360-degree camera system.
  • Premium B&O sound system with 10 speakers.
  • There’s even 400 W inverter built into the vehicle, with 240-volt and 12-volt power outlets and dual USB points for front and rear seat occupants.

Under the bonnet, the 2024 Ford Ranger Platinum features the silky smooth 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine. The same as you’ll find in the Wildtrak, it delivers a seamless 184 kW and 600 Nm of torque. It is mated to Ford’s excellent 10-speed automatic transmission. The 2024 Ford Ranger Platinum, the latest addition to South Africa’s elite R1-million bakkie club, retails for R1 119 000.
