Porsche’s fastest EV, a pre-series Taycan, set an impressive Nurburgring lap time of 7:07.55. The new unnamed model, but likely to be called the Turbo GT, was driven by Porsche test driver Lars Kern.

“I pushed as hard as I could, but that was really all I could do,” says Kern. The 7:07.55 lap time is 26 seconds faster a lap time of the Taycan Turbo S and 18 seconds quicker than the Tesla Model S Plaid, according to Ignition.

PORSCHE’S FASTEST EV IS STILL THE SECOND FASTEST ELECTRIC CAR TO LAP THE NURBURGRING

“Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport. Lars’ lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife is sensational, putting the Taycan in the same league as electric hypercars,” says head of the model line, Kevin Giek. “And the impressive thing about it is that over several laps, Lars clocked almost exactly the same time.”

The Nurburgring lap record for a production electric car is held by the Rimac Nevera at 7:05.298 in August 2022. You can watch onboard footage the lap here.

According to Porsche, Kern’s latest drive saw him go faster in certain sections of the famed track compared to his drive in the Taycan Turbo S. Compared to the 2022 record in a Taycan Turbo S, the times were significantly better: the pre-series car was a good 25 km/h faster heading into the Schwedenkreuz.
