A big challenge for political parties and South Africa as a whole is voter apathy for the 2024 elections. The Electoral Commission of South Africa is hosting voter registration this weekend and it is fearful of largescale voter apathy for the 2024 elections.

As we’ve reported, voter registration for the 2024 elections runs from 08h00 to 17h00 on 18-19 November 2023. With the actual date for 2024 South African National Elections not set as yet, but anticipated between May and August 2024. You can also register to vote online HERE.

However, various political parties and civic organisations are hugely concerned about voter apathy for the 2024 elections. Here are some of the creative things they will implement to get people to vote in 2024.

Political leaders are weighing in. Julius Malema of the EFF says the youth should all register to vote to help shape the future. John Steenhuisen of the DA is asking the youth to vote the ANC out, saying (the country) doesn’t have to be like this.

Some of the more creative ways to fight against voter apathy for the 2024 elections, according to EWN, include hosting free concerts and mobile apps to share information and engage with South Africa’s youth. Anything a political party can do, it will do.

13-MILLION UNREGISTERED VOTERS

South Africa has an estimated 13-million eligible voters who are still not registered. Civic organisations and political parties say they side on the side of the voter, and the first part of empowering them is to make it clear how they can register to vote.

What’s also interesting about the 2024 National and Provincial elections in South Africa, is the fact that they will be the first general election since 1994 to permit independent candidates to compete for seats at both the national and provincial level. President Cyril Ramaphosa approved this in the Electoral Amendment Act 1 of 2023 in April 2023.
